Stars pay tribute to Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau before preseason game

As the 2024-25 NHL season gets underway, teams around the League will be honoring the legacies of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau by showing a tribute video before a preseason game.

The Dallas Stars honored the brothers, who were killed when they were struck by a vehicle while riding their bikes in Salem County, New Jersey, on Aug. 29, by playing the video before their game against the St. Louis Blues at American Airlines Center on Saturday. The Winnipeg Jets also showed the tribute video Saturday, before their game against the Minnesota Wild at Canada Life Centre.

The video highlights the brothers’ contributions to the hockey community, both on and off the ice. Following the video, the arena participated in a 13-second moment of silence, paying homage to Gaudreau’s No. 13.

Johnny played 11 seasons in the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Calgary Flames, and Matthew played professionally for five seasons in the American Hockey League, ECHL and Sweden.
