Seguin Celebration

NEWARK, N.J. -- Tyler Seguin scored a power-play goal 20 seconds into overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 2-1 win against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Sunday.

"Every day we're coming to the rink to work hard, play with pride and play for each other," Seguin said. "We had a time there we just weren't being professionals. We didn't give enough effort. But we want to play with pride, want to work hard and try to win our remaining games."

Seguin won it for the Stars when he took a pass from Jamie Benn and beat Keith Kinkaid with a wrist shot from the right circle. Steven Santini was penalized for cross-checking with 54 seconds remaining in the third period.
"It was a heck of play by [John Klingberg] off the wall to get the puck to Benn for the 2-on-1 in front of the net," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "Tyler has one of the best shots. You give him opportunities from that area of the ice, and most times he's going to score."
The Stars are 11-21-5 on the road.
"We knew coming in they were having a tough time scoring, but we just focused on our game and wanted to get better on the road," Seguin said. "It was a good start to our [five-game road] trip."
Blake Coleman scored his first NHL goal and Kinkaid made 30 saves for the Devils (27-35-13).
Hemsky's power-play goal tied it for the Stars with 6:36 remaining. After having his initial shot from the right circle blocked by Andy Greene, Hemsky put the rebound past Kinkaid.
Coleman, a native of Plano, Texas, gave the Devils a 1-0 lead 11:02 into the first period.

"I'm pretty familiar with a lot of guys in that [Stars] locker room," Coleman said. "So guys like Jamie Benn coming up and saying, 'Congrats' is pretty special. I will be able to remember that and share with friends and family back home."
The Devils, eliminated from playoff contention, are 2-12-3 in their past 17 games.

Goal of the game

Seguin's 25th goal and first in overtime this season beat Kinkaid inside the right post. "They were really pressuring [Benn] and [Klingberg] and I just tried to find a soft spot, skated in and didn't want to give up a possible shot in overtime, so I was happy it went in," Seguin said.

Save of the game

Hemsky's goal came 48 seconds after Lehtonen stopped Blake Pietila on a shorthanded breakaway. "We have to give [Lehtonen] a lot of credit for covering that one up because if he doesn't make that save, the game is probably over," Ruff said. "That was big at a big time in the game."

Highlight of the game

Coleman scored his first NHL goal after stealing the puck along the left wing half wall and skating to the net before lifting the puck over Lehtonen's right shoulder. "I thought maybe I hit a post," Coleman said. "I went straight to the ref to give me the signal."

Unsung performance of the game

Klingberg, who had the secondary assist on Seguin's game-winner, had a game-high 22:03 of ice time and blocked one shot.

They said it

"This season has been disappointing, frustrating. It's a spot I've never really been before where you're kind of out of it but not technically. It's been a domino effect. It hasn't just been one thing, but we'll finish strong and work hard every night." -- Stars center Tyler Seguin
"I made a great move [on the breakaway] and it just caught the inside of [Lehtonen's] pad. He had the five-hole wide open. That would have been huge, but at the same time we just can't get to that point where we get that second one before they get that first one." -- Devils forward Blake Pietila
