Robertson, Oettinger lead Stars to road shootout win

ELMONT, N.Y. -- Jake Oettinger made 27 saves and stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout for the Dallas Stars in a 2-1 win against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Tuesday.

Jason Robertson scored and had the only goal in the shootout for the Stars (25-11-6), who have won two straight.
"I think we needed that," Dallas coach Peter DeBoer said. "I think Jake needed it. I think our group needed it. [Robertson], obviously, big goal in regulation [and] big goal in the shootout. He's done it all year for us, too. It was an important two points."
Anders Lee scored, and Ilya Sorokin made 25 saves for the Islanders (22-17-3), who have lost three straight (0-2-1).
"Good effort," New York coach Lane Lambert said. "Really good effort. Deserve better. Didn't get it so we just have to move on to the next game."

DAL@NYI: Robertson, Oettinger dominate in shootout

Robertson gave Dallas a 1-0 lead at 3:42 of the first period. He received a cross-ice pass from Joe Pavelski, cut back across the crease and scored as Sorokin was moving the other way.
Lee tied it 1-1 at 13:39, tapping in a backdoor slap pass from Brock Nelson on a power play.
The Islanders entered the game 2-for-36 on the power play in their previous 13 games dating to Dec. 10.
"The unit we had, we thought we had good looks," Nelson said. "Obviously, we had a tough stretch here. We weren't getting opportunities to go in, so to come out and get that one to tie it up, it's a big one. You want to win the special teams every night. Power play wants to contribute with at least momentum, but you want to contribute on the score sheet for sure."

DAL@NYI: Lee scores 15th goal of season in 1st period

Oettinger kept the game tied at 3:17 of the third period when he made a pad save on Jean-Gabriel Pageau on a 2-on-1. Sorokin then responded when he stretched across the crease with his right pad to deny Wyatt Johnston's wraparound attempt at 4:51.
"[I] just knew it was going to be a tight game," Oettinger said. "Obviously, they have a great goalie over there, and he's not going to give up any easy ones. It's going to be a tight game. So, I get chances every night to make big saves, and I did that."

DAL@NYI: Robertson records 29th goal of season in 1st

Scott Mayfield had another chance to give New York the lead with seven seconds remaining in regulation, but his shot from low in the right face-off circle was stopped by Oettinger.
"There's no reason he can't be No. 1 on that list," DeBoer said when asked where Oettinger ranked among the goaltenders he has coached in his NHL career. "I have been fortunate to have some really good goaltenders over the years, including the two trips to the [Stanley Cup] Final I made with Marty Brodeur at 40, and Martin Jones in San Jose. But there's no reason he can't be at the top of that list."
