Pavelski, Lindell help Stars defeat Flyers

PHILADELPHIA --Joe Pavelski and Esa Lindell each had a goal and two assists for the Dallas Stars in a 5-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Sunday.

Jason Robertson had a goal and an assist, and Matej Blumel scored his first NHL goal for Dallas (9-5-1), which had lost two straight. Jake Oettinger made 37 saves.
"We knew we needed to win tonight," Stars coach Pete DeBoer said. "We look around the League and you see teams have these losing streaks, roll one into two, two into four or five. We wanted to make sure we didn't do that. This was an important game for us, an important start to the (three-game road) trip."
Travis Konecny scored for Philadelphia (7-6-2), which has lost three straight, including 4-1 to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. Felix Sandstrom made 26 saves.
"I think it's just those little breakdowns that are beating us right now," Konecny said. "If you look at the shots right now that we're generating and opportunities, it's way different than when we were winning at the start of the year, and we probably shouldn't have been. That's going to come. The [coaching] staff has been positive with us as far as the opportunities we are getting, and it's just a matter of not beating ourselves."
Blumel gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at 2:36 of the first period. The forward was playing his second NHL game after being recalled from Texas of the American Hockey League on Nov. 9.

Lindell, who had the secondary assist on Blumel's goal, made it 2-0 at 18:24 when his shot from the left point deflected in off Flyers defenseman Justin Braun.
"I'm just happy to help to score for the team," he said. "Nice to produce some in the [offensive] zone, too."
Lindell entered the game with four points (one goal, three assists) in 14 games.
"He's such a big body (6-foot-3, 220 pounds), so heavy and hard to play against," DeBoer said. "He has some offensive skill. We talked in the beginning of the season that we were going to ask all our defenseman to help out a little bit. He's been really good at both ends."
Konecny scored 54 seconds into the second period to make it 2-1, finishing a nice passing play with linemates Kevin Hayes and Owen Tippett.
Pavelski put Dallas ahead 3-1 with a power-play goal at 9:06, tipping in Miro Heiskanen's shot from the point. Luke Glendening then scored a short-handed goal 57 seconds into the third to extend the lead to 4-1.

The Flyers finished the game 0-for-6 on the power play.
"The thing that bothers me the most is the short-handed goal," Philadelphia coach John Tortorella said. "What if we score on that power-play goal and it doesn't go the other way? I think our effort is there. There are a lot of good things going on with the team. ... That's the only way we can stay in these games offensively, is get some goals kicked in by the power play."
Robertson scored a power-play goal to make it 5-1 at 10:59. Sandstrom stopped Pavelski's backhand shot from in front, but the forward slid the rebound to Robertson, who extended his point streak to eight games (eight goals, eight assists).
NOTES:Robertson has eight multipoint games, which is tied with Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon for second in the NHL. Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid is first with nine. ... Flyers forward Wade Allison did not play after leaving the game Saturday because of an undisclosed injury. Kieffer Bellows replaced him and had one shot on goal in 12:43 of ice time. ... Konecny has eight points (two goals, six assists) during a six-game point streak. ... Pavelski's goal was his 429th in the NHL, tying him with Bill Guerin for eighth among United States-born players. Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane (432) is seventh.
