Hintz, who participated in warmups, was one of three forwards who did not participate in the morning skate, along with Tyler Seguin and Luke Glendening. Seguin was able to play, but Glendening missed the game because of a lower-body injury.
Stars coach Rick Bowness said the morning skate was optional and expected Seguin and Hintz to be "good to go."

Hintz, a center, was a key part of Dallas' top line with left wing Jason Robertson and right wing Joe Pavelski through the regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs. Hintz had four points (two goals, two assists) in six playoff games, second on the Stars behind Pavelski (six points; three goals, three assists).
Hintz had 72 points (37 goals, 35 assists) in 80 regular-season games, third on the Stars behind Pavelski (81 points; 27 goals, 54 assists) and Robertson (79 points; 41 goals, 38 assists).
