Fredrik Olofsson trade

Fredrik Olofsson agreed to a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday after he was acquired in a trade with the Dallas Stars.

Financial terms of the contract were not released.

Dallas received future considerations for Olofsson, who could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

The 27-year-old forward had four points (one goal, three assists) in 28 regular-season games for the Stars this season, his first in the NHL, and played two Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fourth round (No. 98) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Olofsson signed with the Stars as a free agent May 18, 2022, after playing six seasons in his native Sweden. He had 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 37 games for Texas of the American Hockey League this season.

The Avalanche (51-24-7) finished first in the Central Division this season but lost to the Seattle Kraken in seven games in the Western Conference First Round.

Colorado had numerous injuries to its forward group, including captain Gabriel Landeskog, who did not play this season and will not play next season because of a knee injury. Forwards Artturi Lehkonen, Andrew Cogliano and Darren Helm each also missed time due to injury.

The Stars (47-21-14) finished second in the Central before losing to the Vegas Golden Knights in six games in the Western Conference Final.
