Sedins put up remarkable numbers in 17 seasons with Canucks

Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin have produced some incredible numbers during their 17-season career with the Vancouver Canucks.

The 37-year-old twins, selected by Vancouver with the No. 2 and No. 3 picks in the 1999 NHL Draft, announced Monday that they will retire at the end of the season. Henrik and Daniel will leave ranked first and second in points in Canucks history.
Here is a look at some interesting statistics from their NHL career:

Individual scoring

With 1,068 points (240 goals, 828 assists) in 1,327 NHL games, Henrik Sedin ranks sixth among active players in scoring. Daniel Sedin ranks seventh, with 1,038 points (391 goals, 647 assists) in 1,303 NHL games.
That's a combined 2,106 points, second most for two brothers in NHL history behind Wayne and Brent Gretzky, who had 2,861 points between them, all but four of which were Wayne's. Among brothers, it ranks fourth behind Brent, Brian, Darryl, Duane, Rich and Ron Sutter, who combined for 2,936 NHL points, and Anton, Marian and Peter Stastny, who had 2,169 in the League between them.
The 2,106 points represent 20 percent of all scoring by players drafted in 1999 and are 362 points fewer than the combined total of the other 26 players drafted in the first round (2,468).

Team scoring

The Canucks have 1,464 goals with Henrik Sedin on the ice, of which he scored or had an assist on 72.95 percent.
That total of 1,464 goals is seventh among active players and ranks first in Canucks history, 86 more than Daniel Sedin, (1,378) and 309 more than Trevor Linden (1,155).

Setup passes

The Sedins are known for their playmaking abilities. Among active NHL players, Henrik ranks third (828) and Daniel is fifth (647) in assists. Henrik is one of three active players to have at least 80 assists in an NHL season (Joe Thornton, 96 in 2005-06 and 92 in 2006-07; Sidney Crosby, 84 in 2006-07) and is the only active player to have at least 70 assists in a season three times.
Since 2008-09, it is estimated that Henrik Sedin completed 5,497 passes that resulted in shot attempts, which is third in the NHL in that span. Daniel Sedin ranks ninth, with an estimated 4,936 setup passes. This estimate is calculated by dividing a player's primary assists by the team's goals while he was on the ice, then multiplied by the team's shot attempts.

Shot-based metrics

Since 2009-10, the Canucks have 8,891 shot attempts at 5-on-5 compared to 7,401 for their opponents when Daniel Sedin is on the ice, for a shot-attempts (SAT) differential of plus-1,490, 16th best among active NHL players.
That works out to an SAT percent of 54.57, which is up from 48.18 percent when he's not on the ice. His relative SAT of plus-6.39 percent ranks third among active NHL forwards who have played at least 100 games.
Henrik is plus-1,450 (18th among active NHL players) and has a relative SAT of plus-5.85 percent (sixth among forwards with at least 100 games played) since 2008-09.

Zone starts

A factor in each Sedin twin's success was being used primarily in the offensive zone.
Since 2009-10, Daniel has lined up for 3,671 face-offs in the offensive zone at 5-on-5 and 2,068 in the defensive zone, for a zone start percent of 63.97 that ranks fifth among active NHL players (minimum 100 games). Henrik ranks sixth (63.66 percent).
