Kuemper pays homage to Kolzig on Capitals' Reverse Retro night

Current goalie wears throwback mask in honor of team's old-school look

Darcy Kuemper took the first Reverse Retro jersey night of the season very seriously.

The Washington Capitals goalie went with an old-school look on his mask, a throwback look made popular by 1999-2000 Vezina Trophy winner Olaf Kolzig.

Kolzig went with a Godzilla theme once upon a time and even had "Zilla" painted across the chin. Kuemper had his number, 35, on the chin but in a very similar style to Kolzig's nickname.

The Capitals Reverse Retro jerseys this season feature their old "screaming eagle" logo, worn by Kolzig plenty throughout 16 NHL seasons in Washington D.C.
