Pang, a hockey analyst for TNT and Bally Sports Midwest, discussed whether or not Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin will break Wayne Gretzky's goals record. Ovechkin has scored 749; Gretzky has scored 894.
"What makes me think that he can? Somehow magically, he doesn't get hurt," Pang said. "… He's a machine and so with the players that he has around him … He's going to knock on the door but later on, it's just going to get tougher in that final year-and-a half."
Pang also discussed the changes for the Montreal Canadiens, who fired general manager Marc Bergevin on Sunday and named Jeff Gorton executive vice president of hockey operations.
"It's really all about how quickly can you get this up and running again and get that back, get that hope back that they can be contenders," Pang said. "They came so close last year (losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final) and put on a marvelous show. But then you wake up and Carey Price (injured) isn't there and Shea Weber (injured) is not there. … Now all of a sudden, 'woah', it's a little empty."
Pang, who covers the St. Louis Blues for Bally Sports Midwest, also talked about forward Vladimir Tarasenko, as well as the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs.
