David Backes will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Friday.

The Boston Bruins forward is facing discipline for an illegal check to the head against New Jersey Devils center Blake Coleman on Thursday.
The incident occurred in the Devils zone at 18:00 of the third period during the Devils' 5-2 win at TD Garden. Backes received a minor penalty for an illegal check to the head on the play.
The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: illegal check to the head. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.
