Perron, 28, has never come close to matching the 28 goals he scored with the Edmonton Oilers in 2013-14. He's been traded near midseason in each of the past two seasons; from Edmonton to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2014-15, and from Pittsburgh to the Anaheim Ducks in January 2016. Each time he's gotten off to a good start before being slowed by inconsistency or injury.
The left wing had 20 points in 28 games after the Ducks acquired him in a trade for forward Carl Hagelin before a separated shoulder forced him to miss the last three weeks of the regular season. However, he returned for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and had a goal and two assists in Anaheim's seven-game loss to the Nashville Predators in the Western Conference First Round.
One difference between the two halves of Perron's 2015-16 season was that he saw a lot more power-play time in Anaheim (2:35 per game); three of his eight goals with the Ducks were scored on the man-advantage.
Perron, selected in the first round of the 2007 NHL Draft by the St. Louis Blues, has never been an elite goal-scorer and isn't likely to become one -- he has 141 goals in 570 NHL games -- but he's a useful middle-six forward who can be counted on to score 12-18 goals and 35-40 points per season.
