GAMING AND HOCKEY BACKGROUND

What is your favorite NHL video game ever and why?
I would say I have two favorites: NHL 06 and NHL 13. I really liked 06 because of a combination of that different style of the soundtrack that whole decade carried, as well as the addition of the skill moves. They did a similar feature to this in NHL 18, but there was a bit more variety back then and I feel that it was a bigger deal to be implemented on the PS2. 13 was my first NHL game that I played competitively and felt there was a huge advancement from that to NHL 12. I felt it was the greatest positive advancement of gameplay from one year to another.
Who was your childhood hockey idol and why?
Definitely Sidney Crosby. His work ethic and smarts are two major components to his play that I really admire and are skills that I try to incorporate into my life. The guy also just knows how to win.
What is your most memorable hockey moment and why?
My most memorable hockey moment was winning our league playoffs for U18. We had a pretty good team but underachieved during the season. However, come playoff time, we really came together and made a statement proving we were the best team.
My gamer tag is JrPens91 because:
I grew up playing for the Wilkes-Barre Junior Penguins and I wore number 91 so I chose that name. After playing for the Junior Pens, I had no other ideas and people knew me in the NHL community under that name already so I just stuck with it.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU …

My favorite team/player is:Pittsburgh Penguins/Sidney Crosby. I grew up watching and following my hometown team, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. It is really cool seeing the guys there constantly getting called up and making it big with Pittsburgh, so many people in my hometown of Wilkes-Barre just naturally like Pittsburgh. Also, my mom's side of the family is from Pittsburgh and I go to school out there so I have a lot of ties and influences to liking them.
The first hockey video game I ever played was:Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey 98 and NHL Breakaway 99 on the N64. I got them both at the same time but NHL Breakaway was a very difficult game to play on the hardest difficulty. However, I eventually became able to compete with the AI on that game. Throughout the years, playing against the AI definitely got much easier which is why I feel that game helped me out a ton in the long run.
If I could play EA SPORTS™ NHL® 18 vs. one real-life player, I'd pick: Sidney Crosby. He is the best player in the world and would love to see if he is good at NHL 18 too.
My signature EA SPORTS™ NHL® 18 move is:The between the legs dangle. I do it a lot when I play EASHL. I try to incorporate it into VS but I do not see many other players use it.
My go-to breakaway move in EA SPORTS™ NHL® 18 is:The Forsberg. It is effective, looks cool, and is very satisfying to pull off.
One thing people don't usually know about me is:I placed 5th in the Snider Cup but was minutes away from forfeiting. About an hour and a half before the first round started, I realized the internet in my dorm was down for only NHL. Other games worked online so it was really weird but I had to find a plan. After several failed attempts of reinstalling the game and trying a couple friend's consoles in my same dorm, I only had a half hour until my first match started. I reached out to two of my teammates and their roommates to see if I can play in their apartment off campus. However, none of them answered until 10 minutes before the time I had until I had to forfeit my match. I woke my girlfriend up from her nap and took her car and drove quickly over to my teammate's apartment with just a minute or two to spare and made it in time. It is crazy to think that the difference between having the success I had and having to forfeit was a result of a time frame of only a few minutes.
My favorite snack while gaming is:Krave Cereal. I feel as though it is one of the most underrated cereals out there.
My superstition/what brings me luck is:Cycling through my lines between plays. If things are going my way it helps me stay focused. On the other hand, if things aren't going my way, it just helps me clear my head and regroup.
The weirdest thing that happened to me while gaming is:This is a situation that happened a few years ago. I was ranked #1 in the Versus leaderboards for NHL 13. Two years pass by and I get a random DM on my personal Twitter from a kid asking if I was JrPens91. I said yes but was a little confused since I was barely playing NHL online at the time because I was away for hockey and did not have access to a console. Here he was showing me that my gamer tag was in the Guinness World Record's Gamer's Edition for being the top player in NHL 13. I just found it was funny how it was there and I had no idea for that much time.
The emoji I use the most is::cheese: I play EASHL with two of my teammates (Lewis and Ben) on Xbox, and with my brother (Dylan) and one of his friends (Mason) on PS4. We love the cheese goals and use this often.
