The Boston Pride made sure Deanna Laing was involved when they swept a best-of-3 series against the Buffalo Beauts to win the National Women's Hockey League's first championship this weekend in Newark, N.J.
Laing sustained a spinal injury at the inaugural Outdoor Women's Classic at Gillette Stadium on Dec. 31. The NHL donated $200,000 to help Laing with her recovery.

Boston won the first game Friday 4-3 in overtime and secured the championship with a 3-1 victory Saturday. The Pride had Laing's No. 24 hanging behind their bench and celebrated the championship with her via FaceTime.
