Coyotes snap 9-game winless streak with shootout win

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Connor Ingram made 37 saves for the Arizona Coyotes, who ended a nine-game losing streak with a 4-3 shootout win against the Detroit Red Wings at Mullett Arena on Tuesday.

Nick Bjugstad had a goal and an assist, and Lawson Crouse had three assists for the Coyotes (14-25-5), who rallied from two goals down in the third period.
"We're going to play a full 60 minutes no matter what's going on," Arizona forward Travis Boyd said. "It was a big win for everyone in here. I think we've been playing better than some of the results that we've been getting, so now maybe we can snowball this into a bit of a run."
David Perron, Pius Suter and Dylan Larkin scored, and Magnus Hellberg made 20 saves for the Red Wings (18-17-8).
"The frustration is there because the effort is there, the want and the will is there from the group," Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said. "It's just managing the game a little bit better."
The Red Wings, who were coming off a 6-3 loss at the Colorado Avalanche on Monday, have lost three straight and six of eight (2-5-1).
"We probably got a little tired in the third, which is understandable with the back to back," Lalonde said. "We ran into a really good goalie tonight. [We were] a little unfortunate with not being able to finish, but the way we played tonight and three goals on the road should be enough."

DET@ARI: Guenther fires home a rebound to even it up

Suter gave Detroit a 2-1 lead at 4:51 of the third period, shooting blocker side on a 2-on-1 after receiving a pass from Robby Fabbri, who took a hard hit at the blue line to make the play.
Perron then pushed it to 3-1 at 5:49 off a cross-crease pass by Michael Rasmussen.
"When it's 3-1, we've got to bear down as a team. We talk about it all the time," Red Wings defenseman Jake Walman said. "We can't just do it for 40 minutes. We've got to do it the whole time. … We're trying to be a great team, not a good team. We've got to finish those games."
Boyd cut it to 3-2 at 6:43 with a wrist shot from the slot, and Dylan Guenther tied it 3-3 at 7:53 when he shot into an open net after Crouse's initial attempt hit the post.
"We were tired, but goals No. 2 and 3 can't go in," Lalonde said. "I think any goalie who is prideful in his game, you'd want those back."
Bjugstad and Nick Schmaltz scored for Arizona in the shootout.
"We've had a lot of close ones along the way," Ingram said. "We knew if we stuck with it we'd eventfully pull one out. So this feels good, there's no doubt about it."

Larkin scored four seconds into a power play to give Detroit a 1-0 lead at 8:34 of the second period.
"Even after that first goal, we never really missed a step after that," Ingram said. "I think we got better. It's a big sign of maturity and a big sign of resiliency and still having the will to get the job done."
Bjugstad tied it 1-1 at 11:09, finishing a rebound from the bottom of the left circle on a 4-on-2 rush after Jakob Chychrun's shot deflected to him off Hellberg's blocker.
"When you're in that kind of a [losing] stretch, you know [a win] might not be a pretty one, it might not be a Picasso, but you need to find a way," Arizona coach Andre Tourigny said. "I think we were able to find a way tonight."
