DET@CHI: Raymond records first career NHL hat trick

CHICAGO -- Lucas Raymond scored his first NHL hat trick and had an assist, helping the Detroit Red Wings keep the Chicago Blackhawks winless with a 6-3 victory at United Center on Sunday.

"It was fun for sure, first of all to get the bounce-back win after a tough night last night (6-1 loss at the Montreal Canadiens)," said Raymond, a 19-year-old forward who was selected by the Red Wings with the No. 4 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. "Of course, to score my first career hat trick, it's for sure a special night."
Tyler Bertuzzi had a goal and two assists, and Dylan Larkin had three assists for Detroit (3-2-1). Alex Nedeljkovic made 32 saves for his first win with the Red Wings.
Jonathan Toews had two assists for Chicago (0-5-1), and Marc-Andre Fleury allowed six goals on 37 shots.
The Blackhawks have not had a lead in any game this season. They held a team meeting after the game.
"I think, again, we have to keep it in-house," coach Jeremy Colliton said. "I've said a lot and I don't think I need to say more. I think they have a lot of pride. We expect to respond tomorrow and the day after and play Wednesday.
"I think it's a step back from the last two games. We did a lot of good things, I thought against the] New York [Islanders] and Vancouver [Canucks], weren't rewarded for it. But we have to do it for longer. We have to be willing to stick with it. Too much of tonight is a slip back into things that got us in trouble on the [season-opening] road trip, and we paid the price."

Raymond put Detroit ahead 1-0 at 5:41 of the first period when he took a pass from Bertuzzi in the left corner and shot it past Fleury from the slot.

"He's getting … an opportunity, No. 1," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "And he's earned some of it in the NHL at a young age, which not lots of guys get the chance to do. And No. 2, he's playing with real good players on a real good line and getting important minutes. I think, obviously, he's capitalized on that, and it's great that he had the hat trick. There's opportunities that he's getting, and he's got to keep making sure he does a real good job in the minutes that he gets."
Tyler Johnson scored at 12:35 for his first goal with the Blackhawks to tie it 1-1.
Carter Rowney scored at 4:22 of the second period to put the Red Wings up 2-1. He picked up the loose puck behind the net and banked it in off Fleury.

Vladislav Namestnikov scored at 7:33 to make it 3-1.
Detroit made it 4-1 at 9:19 when Larkin circled the net and put the puck in front. It hit Bertuzzi's right skate at the top of the crease and then went in off the skates of Chicago defenseman Seth Jones and forward Reese Johnson.
Dominik Kubalik scored on the power play for the Blackhawks at 12:10 to make it 4-2. He took a pass from Jones and shot it past Nedeljkovic from the top of the right face-off circle.

Raymond scored at 19:00 off the rebound of a shot by Larkin to make it 5-2.
Henrik Borgstrom brought the Blackhawks to within 5-3 with his rebound goal at 1:58 of the third period.
Raymond scored on the power play to complete his hat trick and make it 6-3 at 7:00.
The Blackhawks had a goal by Toews at 11:04 of the third period during a 5-on-3 power play overturned after Blashill successfully challenged for goaltender interference by Kirby Dach on Nedeljkovic.
On the same power play, Nedeljkovic made a sprawling stick save on a shot by Alex DeBrincat.
"That was a lot," Blashill said. "Those aren't easy. I don't think you kill a penalty like that off without really good goaltending, and I thought 'Ned' raised his game to another level at that point once we got into that situation. He was excellent on the 5-on-3. And then we had some big blocked shots as well and some real smart play."
The two assists were Toews' first points after missing last season with chronic immune response syndrome.
"Specifics of what's said in the locker room always stay in the locker room," the Chicago captain said. "But you could imagine we're just trying to dig ourselves out of the hole that we've kind of gotten ourselves in for six games here. It's not a good feeling. At the end of the day, the solution's in our locker room. It's everybody. So I think everyone's trying to take responsibility on how they can be better and help our team and get the win column."
