DETROIT -- Pierre-Luc Dubois had two goals and an assist to help the Columbus Blue Jackets defeat the Detroit Red Wings 7-5 at Little Caesars Arena on Monday.

Columbus led 5-1 in the second period, but Detroit cut it to 5-4 and then 6-5 in the third period.
"We need to learn a lot from that game," Dubois said. "We can't let a team back into a game when we're up by four goals."

Artemi Panarin had a goal and two assists, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 27 saves for the Blue Jackets (14-8-2), who have won five of their past seven games.
"When we got up 5-1, our guys thought it was going to be an easy night, and there are no easy nights in this League," Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said. "We let it turn into a slop fest, and we're very fortunate to come out of here on the right end."

CBJ@DET: Dubois scores on a crafty pass from Panarin

Anthony Mantha had two goals and an assist, and Dennis Cholowski had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings (10-11-3), who have lost three straight (0-2-1). Jimmy Howard allowed three goals on 16 shots before being replaced at the start of the second period by Jonathan Bernier, who made 12 saves.
"I don't think we competed hard enough and we didn't execute when we had chances in the first period," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "I thought we played well enough to win our last two games. We deserved to lose this one."
Dubois gave the Blue Jackets a 1-0 lead at 7:34 of the first period, taking a pass from Panarin off the end boards and beating Howard from in front.
"In a spot like that, I know Artemi is going to make some kind of play, but I never know what it will be," Dubois said. "I would have never even thought of banking it off the boards like that."
Josh Anderson made it 2-0 at 9:51, stealing the puck from Thomas Vanek at the blue line and scoring from the right circle.
Panarin scored a power-play goal to make it 3-0 at 16:04, beating Howard with a wrist shot from the top of the right circle.
Gustav Nyquist scored 44 seconds into the second period to make it 3-1.

CBJ@DET: Nutivaara nets a one-timer from distance

Markus Nutivaara scored on a one-timer to make it 4-1 at 5:02, and Boone Jenner finished a 4-on-2 to extend the lead to 5-1 at 6:40.
Mike Green scored off a turnover by Blue Jackets defenseman David Savard to make it 5-2 at 8:05, and Cholowski cut it to 5-3 with a power-play goal at 17:43.
Mantha scored 39 seconds into the third period off a drop pass from Dylan Larkin to make it 5-4.
Dubois gave Columbus a 6-4 lead at 3:34. After Savard's initial shot got through Bernier, the puck was cleared off the goal line to Dubois, who scored top shelf. Blashill challenged for goaltender interference, but the call was upheld after a video review.
"That was really confusing," Dubois said. "[The referees] waved it off, and then they said it was a goal, and then they reviewed it (for goaltender interference) for a long time. When they said it was a good goal, we weren't sure which one they meant. We were congratulating Savard, and he was saying he thought it was mine."
Mantha pulled Detroit to within 6-5 at 17:48, but Seth Jones scored into an empty net at 18:29 to make it 7-5.
"Momentum means so much in this League, and we gave it away when we got down 3-0 in the first period, but then we had it back in the third," Blashill said. "We can't let them score that sixth goal, though. That took away everything."

They said it

"We were playing together, we weren't giving them chances and we were capitalizing on their mistakes. In the second period, we got content with the lead. That's something you can't do in this League." -- Blue Jackets defenseman Seth Jones
"We didn't play in the first period. We have to find a way to play 60 minutes, and I don't know why that isn't happening. Coach told us between periods to wake up. That was about all he said." -- Red Wings forward Anthony Mantha

Need to know
