Dylan Larkin cut it to 4-1 on a power play at 7:17 of the second period. After Hronek shot off the end boards, Larkin kicked the puck to his stick for a wrist shot and his 13th goal this season.
Joe Veleno tipped in a pass from Ben Chiarot in the slot, making it 4-2 at 14:32.
"We weren't awful. We weren't 4-0 bad," Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said. "We outshot them. You come out of that period, chances were probably even. But it's just, we left some key plays out there. … We were excellent in the second. We were excellent in the third. We got what we deserved."
