Burns, Couture combine for goal to lift Sharks in OT

SAN JOSE -- Logan Couture scored 1:00 into overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings at SAP Center on Tuesday.

Couture, who missed three games while in NHL COVID-19 protocol, scored while lying on his stomach in front of the net after a shot by Brent Burns trickled toward the goal line.
"'Burnzie' made a nice play to me, I saw the [defense] kind of flat-footed," Couture said. "I just tried to take it to the net."
The goal was confirmed following a review when it was determined there was no conclusive video that showed Sharks forward Jonathan Dahlen preceded the puck into the Red Wings zone.
San Jose is 6-0 in overtime this season.
"Those are huge because those are the points you're looking at at the end of the season," Sharks coach Bob Boughner said. "It's nice to see us in these close games, comfortable in these close games and finding ways to win."

Timo Meier and Jeffrey Viel scored, and Burns had three assists for the second straight game for the Sharks (20-16-1) who started a four-game homestand with their third straight win. Adin Hill made 17 saves.
"I think that was one of our games with a complete 60 minutes and we didn't let anything frustrate us," Boughner said. "We just kept coming tonight."
Tyler Bertuzzi and Nick Leddy scored, and Filip Hronek had two assists for the Red Wings (16-16-5), who finished 0-1-2 on their California road trip.
"They tilted it on us," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "We didn't seem to be very strong on the puck. We made a lot of individual errors we didn't need to make and it kind of ignited their transition game."
Alex Nedeljkovic made 37 saves.
"He was great for us tonight," Leddy said. "All year he's been giving us games. It's too bad we couldn't get that extra point."
Meier scored on a power play at 14:24 of the first period to put San Jose ahead 1-0. Dahlen set Meier up with a backhand pass through the crease.

Bertuzzi tied the game 1-1 at 19:38 of the second period on a power play when he tipped a shot from Hronek past Hill's stick.
Leddy scored his first goal of the season at 1:48 of the third period to give Detroit a 2-1 lead before Viel tied it 2-2 at 3:18.
"It wasn't our best period," Leddy said. "They did a good job getting the puck in deep and getting on us. We shot ourselves a little bit in the foot at times. We're a team that needs to do what they did in the third."
