Kraken rally in 3rd for the victory

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Kraken scored four goals in the third period to rally for a 4-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings at Climate Pledge Arena on Saturday.

Yanni Gourde scored twice for his first multigoal game of the season, and Vince Dunn had two assists for the Kraken (19-38-6), who had lost five of six. Philipp Grubauer made 21 saves.
"Really wasn't, for me, a game of extremes," Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. "We just stayed with the game. Our start was excellent. Second period? I really liked our first 10 minutes."
Alex Nedeljkovic made 38 saves for the Red Wings (25-30-7), who have lost seven of eight (1-6-1).
"I don't think we had a stretch where we played the way we wanted to play," Detroit forward Sam Gagner said. "I wouldn't say it was a foot off the gas situation. I think they started really fast and they were creating chances, and we didn't do a good enough job, and then you know, we're on the kill a lot (5-for-5 on penalty kill). I thought we did a good job there finding ways to get kills, which is important for us, but 5-on-5 we got to be better."
Adam Larsson cut it to 2-1 at 7:10 of the third period, skating down the left wing off the bench and shooting under the right arm of Nedeljkovic.
"The second period we didn't like, got down 2-0. I thought we did a lot of good things in the third period," Larsson said. "The first one is always a momentum goal for you, and it helped us get a couple more. … It can't just be a one night thing. We have to build on this. Losing is never fun; tonight was a good night. We can feel good about our game."

Jaden Schwartz tied it 2-2 at 9:54 when he took a stretch pass off the boards from Dunn, held off Red Wings defenseman Troy Stecher and scored with a backhand.
Gourde put Seattle in front 3-2 at 13:03 when his centering pass redirected five-hole on Nedeljkovic off the skate of Moritz Seider. He then shot into an empty net at 19:41 for the 4-2 final.
Earlier in the game, Gourde briefly went to the locker room after he was hit in the face by a puck in the second period.
"You may think that spectacular, but if you hang around 'Gordo' every day, you would just think it's another day," Hakstol said. "It's what he does. He's a competitor."

DET@SEA: Gourde's centering pass gives Kraken lead

Joe Veleno gave Detroit a 1-0 lead at 13:18 of the second period shortly after a Seattle power play expired. Cody Ceci and Ryan Donato had a miscommunication in the defensive zone, and Dylan Larkin exited the penalty box and collected the puck before feeding Veleno for a one-timer.
Taro Hirose made it 2-0 at 16:08 with a rebound in front on the power play. It was his first NHL goal since Nov. 23, 2019.
"Nedeljkovic gave us a chance to find our footing," Gagner said. "Incredible saves, and your goaltender plays like that, you have to find a way to reward him. We got the lead, but for the most part weren't playing the way we wanted to play and certainly need to be better."

NOTES: Gourde extended his point streak to six games (four goals, three assists). … The Kraken are the fourth expansion team in the past 40 years to rally from multiple goals down in the third to win in their inaugural season, joining the Atlanta Thrashers (April 2, 2000), Tampa Bay Lightning (Dec. 16, 1992) and San Jose Sharks (March 21, 1992).
