DET@WPG: Brossoit reaches back to save a goal

WINNIPEG-- Laurent Brossoit made 33 saves for the Winnipeg Jets in a 4-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings at Bell MTS Place on Friday.

Bryan Little scored his 500th NHL point for the Jets (28-14-2), who lost 3-2 at the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.
"To start I felt a little bit rusty," Brossoit said after his first start since a 40-save shutout at the Vancouver Canucks on Dec. 22. "First period was a little sloppy in my eyes, but second period, third period I definitely settled in and it felt good."

Luke Glendening scored for the Red Wings, (16-23-7), who have one win in their past 10 games (1-7-2). Jonathan Bernier made 23 saves.
"It's not easy losing as much as we have, but you can't lose the team and the culture that this locker room's had for so long," Glendening said. "Doing the things the right way has been a part of this team for a long time, so we've just got to continue to try to do that."

DET@WPG: Tanev scores 13 seconds into the game

With the Jets leading 3-2, Brossoit stopped Andreas Athanasiou on a breakaway at 8:40, and Kyle Connor scored into an empty net at 19:00 to make it 4-2.
Brossoit is 9-1-1 this season as backup to Connor Hellebuyck.
"He's been unbelievable," Little said. "It's so nice, when he's in net, to have that confidence in him to make big saves when we need him to, and he did that tonight. He made some great saves, saved a breakaway at a key moment in the game. He's done that for us all season. He's playing great."
Brandon Tanev became the fifth Jets player to score at least 10 goals this season, giving them a 1-0 lead 13 seconds into the first period.
Blake Wheeler made it 2-0 with two seconds left, when his cross-ice pass went off the stick of Red Wings forward Thomas Vanek.

DET@WPG: Wheeler scores just before 1st expires

Little made it 3-0 when his wrist shot deflected off Red Wings defenseman Mike Green at 4:51 of the second period. Little has 209 goals and 291 assists in 798 games with the Winnipeg/Atlanta Thrashers franchise.
"Went by fast," Little said. "Trying to think of the years over my career, and up to this point and it seemed like it flew by. Hopefully there's many more to come."
Glendening pulled the Red Wings within 3-1, finishing a shorthanded 2-on-1 at 10:03 of the second. Dennis Cholowski made it 3-2 at 6:50 of the third period.
"We battled back," Detroit forward Justin Abdelkader said. "I thought we did a lot of good things. Special teams, the power play scored. I think that's a good confidence-builder for our group. The penalty kill I thought did a really good job against a really good power play. We've just got to stick with, continue to make sure our details in our game are great."

Clutch Performance: Little tallies his 500th point

                  They said it

"You start the game and you're down 1-0 before you blink. That's a hard way, you give away the goal basically. You give up that goal and now you've given one up late (in the first period). So you've given one up in the first 30 seconds and one in the last 10 seconds. It's a hard way to win when you're digging out from behind." -- Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill
"I thought it was kind of a gutsy performance. Probably not one for the entire 60 minutes that you'd use as your template at the start of the year. But, back to back in the NHL, obviously they didn't play last night, they were coming in here fresh. They're a fast team, and I thought we did a pretty good job of just kind of grinding through the game. We knew that there was going to be times where they'd get some long zone time, I guess, and some pressure on us for some points, especially in that second period. I thought we did a reasonable job of handling it, and got some big saves from [Brossoit] when we needed it. Any win in the NHL, we'll take it." -- Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey
