Each week, Discover will feature a different youth coach as part of its Exceptional Community Coaches series. In continued support of local hockey communities, Discover is making a $2,000 donation to each of the Learn to Play programs this season. This week, a look at Washington Capitals representative Kyle Sennott of the Future Caps program.

Name of coach: Kyle Sennott
Name of program: Future Caps Learn to Play
About the coach: Coach Kyle came to the Arlington, Virginia area in 2019 and has quickly become one of the most influential coaches in our area. Coach Kyle grew up in Illinois and played for multiple organizations in the Chicago area including the Naperville Sabres, Neuqua Wildcats, and Chicago Mission. After finishing his youth hockey career, he played ACHA hockey at Southern Illinois University. Coach Kyle spent four seasons coaching teams with the Wilmette Braves (AHAI) and New Trier High School (Scholastic Hockey League). Coach Kyle coaches various programs and teams at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, but makes his biggest impact with the 8U age group in the Future Caps program. Coach Kyle is charismatic, patient, knowledgeable, and takes the time to understand the needs and personalities of each and every player in the program. Coach Kyle arrives on the ice (very early!) every week with a smile on his face, and a patient and understanding attitude. Coach Kyle even assisted the Washington Capitals Youth Hockey Development department in editing and refreshing our Future Caps program curriculum to help ensure that each and every drill was benefitting players in the program and allowing them to develop to their full potentials. We are so grateful to have someone like Coach Kyle in our Future Caps program!
About the program: Future Caps is a Learn to Play initiative developed in collaboration with the National Hockey League (NHL) and National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA). The NHL and NHLPA have identified the need for a unified growth strategy as a priority for the sport of hockey. The Future Caps Learn to Play program aims to be the gold standard for youth hockey programs with the goal of inspiring more families to join the hockey community. Learn to Play changes the way youth hockey is offered by providing first-time participants ages five (5) to nine (9) free head-to-toe equipment, eight (8) weeks of age appropriate on-ice instruction, and certified coaching in a fun and safe atmosphere.
Donation meaning: This donation would mean so much to the growth of our Future Caps Learn to Play program! It is important to dedicate time and resources to this younger, developmental age group, and the donation from Discover would assist in providing new learning resources for our players. Coaches, rink administrators, families, and players are dedicated to the growth and success of this program, and understand how important it is to provide meaningful experiences to new hockey families. This donation would shed light on the success and value of our program and allow us to continue providing memorable experiences in the future!
