Comtois, selected in the second round (No. 50) of the 2017 NHL Draft, had six points (five goals, one assist), 14 shots on goal and averaged 17:45 of ice time in five games for Canada. The forward scored four of his Canada-high five goals in a 14-0 win against Denmark in the opening game of the tournament Dec. 26.
The 19-year-old missed a penalty shot 1:14 into overtime of a 2-1 loss to Finland in the quarterfinals at Rogers Center on Jan. 2. Finland scored the game-winning goal 4:03 later, and Comtois became a target of social media criticism.
The loss denied Canada a chance to play for a medal at the WJC for the second time in 21 years and first time in 13 as the host country.
Comtois is expected to be sidelined for two weeks. He had seven points (two goals, five assists) in 10 games for the Ducks this season, and one goal in four games for San Diego of the American Hockey League.
