Kostin scores twice for Oilers in win against Ducks

ANAHEIM --Klim Kostin scored twice for the Edmonton Oilers in a 6-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Wednesday.

Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist to extend his road point streak to an NHL career-high 11 games (eight goals, 14 assists), and Jack Campbell made 21 saves for the Oilers (22-18-3), who were 1-3-1 in their previous five games.
"We needed to get back in the win column. That's the main thing," McDavid said. "To put together a good game is always good and something to build on."
Sam Carrick and Simon Benoit scored, Max Comtois had two assists, and John Gibson allowed six goals on 37 shots before being pulled after the second period for the Ducks (12-26-4). Anthony Stolarz made 16 saves in relief.
Edmonton's 53 shots on goal were a team record for a road game.
"It's unacceptable the way we leave our goalie out to dry like that," Carrick said. "It happens way too much. We've got to compete harder."

Dylan Holloway gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead at 3:24 of the first period with a one-timer from the slot off a backhand pass from below the goal line by McDavid.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his 20th goal of the season to make it 2-0 at 4:38, but Carrick scored off a feed from Comtois to cut it to 2-1 at 8:52.
"Obviously it was nice to get that one early, but you always want to do more when you lose like that," Carrick said.
McDavid made it 3-1 at 10:23, spinning away from Ducks forward Trevor Zegras before scoring with a backhand from the slot. It was his NHL-leading 35th goal this season.
Kostin pushed it to 4-1 at 19:02 when he stole a pass from Anaheim defenseman Dmitry Kulikov and scored between Gibson's pads.
"The first four goals, we have the puck on our stick. We have control of the puck," Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. "We should be able to break the puck out and, suddenly, it's on their stick."

Kostin then extended the lead to 5-1 at 7:41 of the second period on a one-timer from the inside edge of the left face-off circle.
The Oilers tried several times to get Kostin his first NHL hat trick.
"I didn't deserve a hat trick," he said. "I have to work a little harder. Not time for a hat trick."
Leon Draisaitl scored six seconds into a power play to make it 6-1 at 18:44. It was his NHL-leading 15th goal with the man-advantage.
"I thought we controlled play from the start," Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft said. "Got contributions from lots of different people, and special teams were excellent for us tonight. That's a recipe for a good win for us."

Benoit scored on a slap shot from above the left circle 48 seconds into the third period for the 6-2 final. It was his second NHL goal and first since Oct. 28, 2021 (89 games).
"Obviously, they're a good team," Carrick said. "You've got to give them a lot of credit; they play fast, they're extremely good at creating offense, so it's a good test for us to figure out that's where we want to get to. The only way to get there is to work."
NOTES:The Oilers are the first NHL team with four 20-goal scorers this season (McDavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins, Zach Hyman), and the first to have four by their 43rd game since the 1995-96 Pittsburgh Penguins. ...
