The center practiced Monday and took part in power-play drills before leaving early. Coach Dave Tippett said there's no guarantee McDavid will be ready for the game Tuesday.
"We'll see how it feels tomorrow and worry about that tomorrow," McDavid said.
The Oilers captain was hurt during a 3-2 win against the Nashville Predators on Feb. 8. He went into the boards after being checked by Predators defenseman Dante Fabbro at 3:58 of the second period, iced the knee between periods, played 5:47 in the third and was on the ice at the buzzer. He played 19:27 over 20 shifts in the game, fewer than the 22:07 over 21 shifts he was averaging this season.
"I just banged it," McDavid said. "Just a little sore and swollen. I took an extra day here and we'll see how it feels tomorrow. It's kind of like a charley horse, kind of lower part of the quad, top of the knee part. It was really sore. A bit of a grind but I just tried to work through it."
McDavid had multiple tears in his left knee and a broken tibia after hitting the goal post during the final game last season, and he revealed last month that he declined to have surgery (https://www.nhl.com/news/connor-mcdavid-declined-surgey-to-play-this-season/c-314292808) in order to be able to play this season. He was told surgery would have caused him to miss the entire 2019-20 NHL season.
"It's a completely different part," McDavid said. "Nothing that was hurt before. It hurts now. That's good news, I guess. It's the same knee but nothing related to what happened last year."
McDavid had an assist Saturday to give him 81 points (30 goals, 51 assists) this season, four behind teammate Leon Draisaitl (31 goals, 54 assists) for the NHL lead.
The Oilers (29-20-6) are second in the Pacific Division, one point behind the Vancouver Canucks.
