Lars Eller's power-play goal with 9:26 remaining broke a tie and helped the Washington Capitals to a 2-1 preseason win against the New York Islanders at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn., on Saturday.
After Islanders defenseman Patrick Cullity was whistled for slashing, Eller took a cross-ice feed and sent a one-timer from the top of the right circle past goalie J-F Berube. Anders Lee erased a 1-0 deficit at 3:50 of the third period when he collected the rebound of Ryan Pulock's slap shot from the right point and poked it past Capitals goalie Braden Holtby. Nate Schmidt opened the scoring for the Capitals with a power-play goal at 13:54 of the first period. Capitals forwards Marcus Johansson (lower body) and Madison Bowey (upper body) left the game with an injury.
