Times Square, Empire State Building light up for Rangers pick Lafreniere

New York lit up at the selection of Alexis Lafreniere, quite literally.

A huge billboard in Times Square featured the New York Rangers' top selection at the 2020 NHL Draft with a message reading "Bienvenue a Broadway" in French, or "Welcome to Broadway" in English.
The Empire State Building's legendary lights were also colored red, white and blue.

New York chose the center from Rimouski of the QMJHL with the No. 1 pick.

Fans have been pining to see Lafreniere in a Rangers uniform since New York won Phase 2 of the 2020 NHL Draft Lottery Aug. 10 and got their chance after he addressed them after the selection.

Now all that's left is to see what he can do once he gets on the ice.
