The 31-year-old defenseman was released from his professional tryout (PTO) with the Calgary Flames on Sept. 19.
"It's been a lot of great years and a lot of great memories, but the body is starting to fail a little bit and I feel it's time to move on and do the next chapter in my life," Gryba said in a video posted on Twitter. "I want to thank all my teammates, they've been unbelievable, all the staff, the coaches ... and the fans everywhere from Binghamton to Ottawa and Edmonton and New Jersey and Bakersfield and everywhere in between. Thank you guys so much for all the support over the years but it's time to hang 'em up."
Selected by the Ottawa Senators in the third round (No. 68) of the 2006 NHL Draft, Gryba had 43 points (seven goals, 36 assists) in 289 games with the Senators, Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils. He played 10 games with the Devils and had seven points (two goals, five assists) in 47 games with Binghamton of the American Hockey League last season.
