The Edmonton Oilers forward was disciplined for boarding Colorado Avalanche center Nazem Kadri in Game 3 of the Western Conference Final at Rogers Place on Saturday.
The incident occurred 1:06 into the first period. Kane was assessed a major penalty for boarding on the play.
Kadri, who spent several minutes on the ice and was attended to by Colorado's trainer before being helped to the dressing room, is out for the rest of the series with an undisclosed injury.
"I was just coming in on the backcheck," Kane said. "Puck went wide, kind of dribbled into the corner. I know he likes to reverse hit. I was just trying to get a bump on him, that's really all I did. Unfortunately, he went into the boards awkwardly and hurt his hands. But that was unfortunate."
Kane will miss Game 4 at Edmonton on Monday (8 p.m. ET; TNT, CBC, SN, TVAS). The Avalanche lead the best-of-7 series 3-0 after a 4-2 victory Saturday. Kane leads the Stanley Cup Playoffs with 13 goals and is tied for fifth with 17 points in 15 games. He has two points (one goal, one assist) in the conference final.
Kadri has 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 13 playoff games, including four points (one goal, three assists) in the conference final. He had an NHL career-high 87 points (28 goals, 59 assists) in 71 regular-season games.
