Facts and Figures: Ovechkin's road to 700

Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals became the eighth member of the NHL's 700-goal club when he scored at 4:50 of the third period in a 3-2 loss against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Saturday.
Here's a look at some of the numbers behind the highest-scoring left wing and Russia-born player in NHL history:

5,519 -- Shots on goal by Ovechkin since his NHL debut on Oct. 5, 2005 (goal No. 700 came on shot No. 5,518). Only Ray Bourque (6,209) and Jaromir Jagr (5,637) have more since the League began tracking shots in 1959-60.
260 -- Assists by center Nicklas Backstrom on Ovechkin's 700 regular-season goals. Only three players in NHL history have set up a teammate more often: Wayne Gretzky (364; Jari Kurri), Bryan Trottier (310; Mike Bossy) and Henrik Sedin (280; Daniel Sedin).

155 - Games needed by Ovechkin to go from 600 goals to No. 700, including the game in which he scored No. 600. No one has done it faster; Gretzky (169 games) is second).
140 -- Different goalies Ovechkin has scored against during the regular season. Goal No. 700 was the second of his career against New Jersey's Mackenzie Blackwood.

110 - Game-winning goals by Ovechkin, tied with Brett Hull and Teemu Selanne for fourth-highest total in NHL history. Phil Esposito (118) is third.

48 -- Goals by Ovechkin against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the most he's scored against one team during the regular season. He has 47 against the Winnipeg Jets/Atlanta Thrashers, 43 against the Carolina Hurricanes, 41 against the Toronto Maple Leafs and 39 each against the New York Islanders and Florida Panthers. Ovechkin's 700th goal was his 30th in 57 games against the Devils.
34 - Ovechkin's age when he scored his 700th goal. Only Wayne Gretzky (29) was younger; they are the only players to score 700 goals before age 36.

27 - Hat tricks by Ovechkin during the regular season, eighth in NHL history and one behind Marcel Dionne and Bobby Hull. His 27th hat trick came against the Los Angeles Kings on Feb. 4 and moved him past Maurice Richard. It was also the first natural hat trick of his career and his NHL-leading fourth this season. His only hat trick in the Stanley Cup Playoffs came against the Pittsburgh Penguins on May 4, 2009.
24 - Most goals scored by Ovechkin against one goalie. He's scored 24 goals against Marc-Andre Fleury (Pittsburgh Penguins, Vegas Golden Knights) and Henrik Lundqvist (New York Rangers).
23 - Overtime goals scored by Ovechkin during the regular season, the most in NHL history and four more than runner-up Jaromir Jagr.
22 -- Players who have exactly one assist on an Ovechkin goal, a group that includes defenseman Nick Jensen, who assisted on No. 700.
15 - Consecutive seasons Ovechkin has scored at least 30 goals. He and Mike Gartner are the only players in NHL history to score at least 30 goals in each of their first 15 seasons.
12 - Regular-season penalty shots taken by Ovechkin. He has scored on two; against the Philadelphia Flyers on Jan. 17, 2010, and against the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 9, 2010.
