Fan trades beard for puck from Connor McDavid

Nick Cordell hadn't lived without a beard since 2008, but he was willing to part with his scruffy facial hair to score a puck from Connor McDavid.
Cordell brought a sign saying "I will shave beard for a puck" from the Edmonton Oilers captain to Scottrade Center for their game against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday. When McDavid made good, Cordell lived up to his end of the bargain.

"I trimmed my beard about a year and a half ago, but haven't been clean shaven since 2008," Cordell said. "I absolutely had no problems shaving for McDavid."
Cordell, a Detroit Red Wings fan who lives in Springfield, Illinois, took a page out of his kids' playbook by making the sign to get McDavid's attention. When he told his family and friends at work about his plan, few thought Cordell would score the prized possession. Nor did they think he would shave even if he received the puck.
"They thought it was a cool idea," Cordell said. "But no one thought I would actually go through with it if [the plan] worked. My wife and kids didn't think I would actually do it either."

After making the 96-mile trip home from St. Louis, he posted a video of himself shaving on Twitter to prove he'd completed the deal.

The social-media world exploded at learning of Cordell's story. Oilers defenseman Eric Gryba, who recently

for charity, voiced his excitement for Cordell's commitment to the trade.

It was something Cordell won't soon forget.
"This was one of the best experiences I've ever had at a hockey game," Cordell said. "I was just in shock and awe when he gave me the puck, I couldn't believe it actually happened and never thought about backing out of the deal."
