Tolvanen, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound right wing, plays for Sioux City in the United States Hockey League, and is second in the USHL with 16 goals and 27 points. Vesalainen (6-3, 207), has one goal in nine games with HPK in Liiga, Finland's top professional league.
Heiskanen (6-0, 170) has seven points in 25 games with HIFK in Liiga. Valimaki (6-1, 204), who plays for Tri-City in the Western Hockey League, is fourth among WHL defensemen with 12 goals and 35 points in 32 games.
Five players who helped Finland win the gold medal at the 2016 WJC in Helsinki return: goaltender Veini Vehvilainen, defenseman Olli Juolevi (Vancouver Canucks) and Vili Saarjarvi (Detroit Red Wings), and forward Kasper Bjorkqvist (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Julius Nattinen (Anaheim Ducks).
The final players cut were defensemen Otto Leskinen, Jarkko Parikka and Robin Salo, and forwards Jouka Juhola and Aaro Vidgren.
Forwards Patrik Laine (Winnipeg Jets) and Jesse Puljujarvi (Edmonton Oilers) played on the top line at the 2016 WJC and remain eligible for the tournament but are staying with their NHL teams.
Finland will play in Group A at the WJC, along with Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland. All its preliminary-round games will be played at Bell Centre in Montreal, starting against Czech Republic on Monday (5 p.m. ET; NHLN).
The tournament runs through Jan. 5.
