Luongo gives the Panthers three goaltenders for the NHL Global Series against the Winnipeg Jets. The first of the two games will be played at Hartwall Arena on Thursday (2 p.m. ET; NBCSN, TSN3, NHL.TV).
James Reimer will start for Florida (2-4-3) and will be backed up by Michael Hutchinson, who is no longer on emergency recall.
The Panthers will return to Florida from Finland on Saturday and do not play again until Nov. 8 against the Edmonton Oilers.
"Officially, if [Luongo] is ready, he could play, but we're going to make that decision tomorrow," Boughner said after an optional morning skate. "I could see him more playing when we get back home, [but] he's close. He's real close."
Luongo, 39, was injured in the second period of a 2-1 shootout loss at the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Panthers' first game of the season. With 471 NHL victories, he is 13 behind Ed Belfour for third place on the all-time wins list. He's also 1,602 saves behind Martin Brodeur for the most in NHL history and became the third goaltender, after Brodeur and Patrick Roy, to play 1,000 games, which he accomplished April 5.
"We want to make sure [Luongo] is 110 percent before he gets back in there and make sure that we're doing the right thing by him," Boughner said. "We need three goalies in case something happened."
