The 39-year-old goalie was injured in the second period of the Panthers' season opening 2-1 shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Oct. 6.
"I wouldn't say two weeks because I haven't been on the ice yet," Luongo said. "I'm still trying to get comfortable walking and all that kind of stuff. I don't have a time to tell you specifically, but obviously I'm working hard to being back as soon as I can because I've done enough sitting around the last couple of years. I want to be on the ice with the boys."
Luongo, who will be honored before the Panthers host the Vancouver Canucks at BB&T Center on Saturday (7 p.m. ET; SN1, FS-F, NHL.TV) for playing in his 1,000th NHL game April 5, was injured when Florida center Frank Vatrano fell on the back of his leg with Luongo on his stomach in the crease.
Luongo was limited to 75 games the past two seasons because of injuries, including a groin injury that caused him to miss 26 games last season. He said he wasn't sure what to make of his latest injury.
"I've had guys fall on me all the time," Luongo said. "It's not something that's new. I don't know if it was just freaky the way the guy fell on me or if it's all related with all the other stuff. For now, I chalk it up to freaky so I can have peace of mind and just keep going and get back."
Luongo, who is 471-376-86 with 33 ties in 19 NHL seasons with the New York Islanders, Panthers and Vancouver Canucks, ranks fourth on the NHL's all-time wins list, 13 wins behind third-place Ed Belfour.
Luongo is third all-time in the NHL for games played by a goalie with 1,002, behind Martin Brodeur (1,266) and Patrick Roy (1,029).
