RALEIGH, N.C. --Brent Burns scored two goals, including the game-winner, in his debut for the Carolina Hurricanes, a 4-3 victory against the Florida Panthers at PNC Arena on Saturday.
Andrei Svechnikov and Martin Necas each had a goal and an assist, Jaccob Slavin had two assists, and Frederik Andersen made eight saves for Carolina. Rudolfs Balcers, Ryan Lomberg and Zac Dalpe scored for the Panthers, and Chris Tierney had two assists. Spencer Knight made 43 saves for the Panthers. Burns, who was acquired in a trade with the San Jose Sharks on July 13, gave Carolina a 1-0 lead 6:12 into the first period before Svechnikov made it 2-0 at 11:56. Balcers got the Panthers to within 2-1 48 seconds into the second period before Lomberg tied it 2-2 at 4:52. Dalpe gave Florida a 3-2 lead with a power-play goal at 9:16. Necas tied it 3-3 at 14:44 of the second. Burns scored to make it 4-3 with his second goal of the game at 9:00 of the third period.
