Kings get shootout win in Quick's 700th NHL game

LOS ANGELES --Jonathan Quick made 30 saves through overtime and three more in the shootout for the Los Angeles Kings, who rallied for a 3-2 win against the Florida Panthers at Crypto.com Arena on Sunday.

Quick became the fourth United States-born goalie to play in 700 NHL games, joining John Vanbiesbrouck (882), Ryan Miller (796) and Tom Barrasso (777).
"Looking back at playing in that many games, you just think about how many great relationships you've made over the years with teammates, coaches, trainers that you've been with forever. Just feel fortunate to have those memories about all those guys," Quick said.

scored for the Kings (33-20-8), who had lost two straight, including 5-0 to the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. Adrian Kempe (third round) and Trevor Moore (fifth) scored in the shootout.
Los Angeles played without forwards Viktor Arvidsson (lower body) and Dustin Brown (upper body), and defensemen Drew Doughty (upper body) and Mikey Anderson (upper body).
"That was something that was in question, I think, headed into the game with the number of bodies we have missing," Kings coach Todd McLellan said when asked whether it was a necessary win to maintain belief. "And in San Jose, I don't think we overcame it at all. I don't think we were prepared for it yet. We regrouped and we responded well tonight."
Eetu Luostarinen and Brandon Montour scored for the Panthers (40-13-6), who had a five-game winning streak end. Spencer Knight made 35 saves.
"I think this is how it's going to be from here on out," Montour said. "It's nice when you get to score six, seven, eight goals in a game. But you know, teams tighten it up. They obviously watch your tendencies and that's how it's going to be come playoffs. You just have to keep on battling."

FLA@LAK: Frk ties game under a minute left of 3rd

Frk, who was recalled from Ontario of the American Hockey League earlier Sunday, tied it 2-2 with 32 seconds remaining in the third period. He beat Knight glove side with a slap shot from the left face-off circle during a 6-on-4 power play.
Frk has scored two goals in three NHL games this season.
"We have confidence in them, in everyone stepping in the lineup," Quick said. "A win like tonight, it's just something that towards the end of the year, these are points that are going to mean a lot."
Kupari put Los Angeles ahead 1-0 at 11:50 of the first period, beating Knight short side with a soft backhand from the left circle. Defenseman Jordan Spence had the secondary assist on the play for his first NHL point.

Luostarinen scored shorthanded 43 seconds into the second to tie it 1-1. Jonathan Huberdeau intercepted a pass by Kempe and fed Luostarinen, who skated between Sean Durzi and Arthur Kaliyev and shot five-hole on Quick.
Montour put Florida ahead 2-1 at 3:44, shooting into an open net after Aleksander Barkov's initial attempt was blocked by Patric Hornqvist in front.
"Obviously, we would have liked to put them away early," Florida defenseman Radko Gudas said. "We had our chances, but [Quick is] one of the best goaltenders in the league for a reason for the last decade. He played really well. I just thought we could have won that game earlier.
NOTES:Kings defenseman Tobias Bjornfot sustained an apparent lower-body injury in overtime. McLellan said he was being examined and did not know the extent of the injury. … Huberdeau has eight assists during a five-game streak. … Barkov, who scored Florida's goal in the shootout, extended his point streak to five games (one goal, 10 assists). He has scored 60 points (26 goals, 34 assists) in 46 games this season. Only Pavel Bure (44 games in 1999-2000) and Huberdeau (45 games in 2019-20 and 2021-22) have reached the mark in fewer games in Panthers history. … Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky sustained a bloody nose after being struck in the face by an errant puck in the first period while sitting on the bench.
