The street is located outside the K.C. Irving Regional Centre, the home of Acadie-Bathurst of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The rink changed its civic address to 14 Sean Couturier Ave.
"It's special, it's a great honor," Couturier told CBC. "It's not something you dream of growing up, but if you can be an example for other young kids and remind them even coming from a small town like Bathurst, anything is possible if you make the sacrifices and believe in what you can do."
Couturier played junior hockey for Drummondville of the QMJHL but has been a minority owner of Acadie-Bathurst since 2013. His dad, Sylvain Couturier, who played 33 NHL games with the Los Angeles Kings from 1988-92, has been the organization's general manager since 2005.
Sean Couturier was born in Phoenix in 1992 but moved to Bathurst when Sylvain joined Acadie-Bathurst as an assistant coach in 2002.
A first-round pick (No. 8) of the Flyers at the 2011 NHL Draft, Couturier has 56 goals and 157 points in 350 NHL games and tied his NHL career high with 39 points last season.
