Richie Dunn, a defenseman who played 483 NHL games in the 1970s and 1980s, mostly with the Buffalo Sabres, has died. He was 59. The Sabres announced Dunn's death via their Twitter account on Wednesday.

Dunn was undrafted after his junior hockey career, but signed with the Sabres as a free agent in 1977. He spent parts of two seasons with Buffalo before making the Sabres for good in 1979. The Sabres traded Dunn to the Calgary Flames in June 1982; one year later, he was acquired by the Hartford Whalers and spent parts of two seasons there before returning to the Sabres in 1985. He bounced between the Sabres and their American Hockey League affiliate in Rochester before retiring from hockey after the 1989-90 season. Dunn finished his NHL career with 36 goals and 176 points. He had three goals and 18 points in 36 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He remained in the Buffalo area after his retirement.
