The Sabres traded Dunn to the Calgary Flames in June 1982; one year later, he was acquired by the Hartford Whalers and spent parts of two seasons there before returning to the Sabres in 1985. He bounced between the Sabres and their American Hockey League affiliate in Rochester before retiring from hockey after the 1989-90 season. Dunn finished his NHL career with 36 goals and 176 points. He had three goals and 18 points in 36 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He remained in the Buffalo area after his retirement.
