Sabres team scope

A day after Buffalo Sabres goalie Anders Nilsson made 33 saves in a 3-0 victory against the Florida Panthers for his first shutout since March 4, 2012, it is expected Robin Lehner will get the start against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. Lehner, who is 1-2-1 with 3.01 goals-against average and a .892 save percentage in four starts, hasn't played since Oct. 20, missing three games with a stomach illness. "It [stinks], I really want to play right now," Lehner said after practice Friday. "I'm ready for Winnipeg." The Sabres ended a four-game losing streak (0-2-2) with the win against the Panthers. They are 1-1-2 on the road.

Jets team scope

Jets forward Patrik Laine continues to play at a point-per-game pace to start his rookie season in the NHL. The No. 2 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft has six goals and two assists in eight games. Four of his six goals have come on the power play; the Jets have five goals with the man-advantage. "When I came here, they had the worst power play last year, so I thought that I could bring something to the power play," Laine said. "And now I've got a couple goals on the power play. Those are important goals for these games. I'm just trying to help my team to win." Laine's eight points are tied with center Mark Scheifele for the Jets lead. Winnipeg's third line of Shawn Matthias, Adam Lowry and Joel Armia has five points in the past three games. "They've been so strong in all parts of the game, generating big chunks of our offence right now playing against the other team's best," coach Paul Maurice said. "Really excited about what they can continue to do."
