My dad had been here for two days already, so he had a pretty good lay of the land. At 9 a.m., we met at my hotel. We saw Old Town Square, including the Astronomical Clock. Prague Castle was closed, but we still walked up the hill, went around it and came back down. We stopped for a nice cup of coffee along the Vltava River and, of course, crossed the Charles Bridge.
I joked with my dad, "Did you ever think you'd be meeting your son in Prague?"
We had lunch at a pub, and I had a big bowl of goulash. Thanks to my roots, I love Eastern European food. After a break in the afternoon, my dad and I met for dinner in a different part of the city, and this time we had … Italian.
I think there's a pretty big Italian food scene here. It seems like there's quite a few restaurants. We had a pretty heavy Czech meal for lunch, so we decided to switch it up a little bit.
That night, I soaked in the tub, drank a lot of water and got 12 hours of sleep to take care of my body.
In the morning, my dad and I got together again. At about 10 o'clock, we were sitting out there having coffee in a little square near the national library. Just beautiful scenery again. The architecture was amazing.
We went to a store selling handmade Czech toys, and I got some stuff for my kids. That's honestly one of the highlights for me, just being able to bring special stuff back for my kids. My son loves cars, so I've got a suitcase full of toy cars from Switzerland and Prague for him.
To be able to kind of share this with my dad, I think he said it best. He said my grandfather would have been very proud and very happy that we were enjoying this time together in this part of the world. We haven't really had a chance to come over here much, so it really meant a lot to us.
