Golden Knights say keeping composure key against Sharks in Game 4

LAS VEGAS -- The Vegas Golden Knights know the importance of keeping their composure heading into Game 4 of the Western Conference First Round against the San Jose Sharks.

It worked to the Golden Knights' benefit in Game 3 on Sunday, when a 6-3 victory gave them the lead in the best-of-7 series. Game 4 is at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday (10:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN360, TVAS2, ATTSN-RM, NBCSCA).

"It's the playoffs, and that seems to always be the story," Golden Knights forward Max Pacioretty said Monday. "People will always be upset one way or the other. I thought we've done a pretty good job [keeping our composure]."
The Golden Knights won Game 3 thanks to the play of their top line of Mark Stone (three goals, two assists), Paul Stastny (two goals, three assists) and Pacioretty (one goal, one assist).
Vegas also stayed out of the penalty box, something they couldn't do in a 5-3 win in Game 2 on Friday, when they gave the Sharks eight power plays. San Jose went 1-for-3 on the power play in Game 3, while Vegas was 2-for-6.
Sharks center Joe Thornton committed one of those penalties; an illegal check to the head of Vegas forward Tomas Nosek at 16:54 of the second period. He had a with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday.

"You just don't want these games to get out of hand," Pacioretty said. "There's so much emotion on both sides. If a team's losing, obviously you want to try and gain some momentum in the next game, whether that's being physical or making a statement."
Pacioretty said that though Vegas has had some undisciplined penalties in the series, it's the timing of them that's made them acceptable.
"We're able to gain some power plays and score some goals because of it," he said.
Teams that win Game 3 of a best-of-7 series tied 1-1 have gone on to win the series 67.9 percent of the time (212-100). The Golden Knights took a 2-1 lead in last season in the Western Conference Second Round against the Sharks and won in six games.
Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant has said he wants his team to keep playing its game and not worry about the Sharks initiating the physicality.
"We're going to make sure our guys are on the ice at the right time," Gallant said, "and they're going to make sure their guys are on the ice at the right time."
