George-McPhee

LAS VEGAS --Vegas Golden Knights general manager George McPhee said he had at least six trades lined up before the NHL Expansion Draft and continued to talk to a few other GMs on Tuesday.
McPhee said Monday would be the last day he would discuss trades ahead of the expansion draft and the Golden Knights would pick their team Tuesday. They must submit their list by 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday. It will be unveiled during the 2017 NHL Awards and NHL Expansion Draft presented by T-Mobile in Las Vegas on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN).

"There were a few GMs that had travel issues last night that requested to talk today, so we agreed to do that and we're doing that this morning," McPhee said Tuesday. "We'll wrap that up soon, I hope, and then we'll start picking the team.
"We're going to use every minute that we have. We'll put a team together today and hopefully not have to go too deep into the night, and we'll submit it five minutes before 7 a.m. tomorrow."
McPhee said three or four GMs needed more time. Toronto Maple Leafs GM Lou Lamoriello had travel issues, so he and McPhee spoke at 2:30 p.m. ET on Monday and again about 7:45 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
"And then there were a couple guys in the East and one in the West that were trying to get here and had some issues, but nothing major in terms of deal-making," McPhee said. "I think we just need to talk one more time, and we'll know where we are."
McPhee must select one player from each of the 30 teams, including 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders, with a minimum of 20 players under contract for the 2017-18 season. NHL rosters are limited to 23 players once the season starts.
Vegas will make more trades after the expansion draft.
"We're going to have to move some defensemen because we're going to claim a bunch," McPhee said.
