Instant analysis: Penguins at Capitals, Game 5

WASHINGTON -- The Washington Capitals defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference Second Round series at Verizon Center on Saturday. The Capitals trail the best-of-7 series 3-2.
Alex Ovechkin and T.J. Oshie led the way offensively for the Capitals with a power-play goal and assist apiece; the power play went 2-for-5. Justin Williams scored, and Braden Holtby made 30 saves and held the Penguins to fewer than two goals for the first time in the series.

What we learned: The Capitals weren't ready for their season to end and elevated their play. Their power play came to life after going 1-for-12 in the first four games of the series and they got to Penguins rookie goaltender Matt Murray despite 19 shots on goal.
Ovechkin was dominant physically (three hits), controlling the puck and shooting it (six shots on goal).
For the first time in the series, the Penguins lost their composure. A retaliatory penalty from defenseman Ian Cole led to Oshie's go-ahead power-play goal and a bad turnover by defenseman Brian Dumoulin led to the Williams goal.

What this means for the Capitals: With Ovechkin and Holtby leading the way, the Capitals forced a Game 6 and kept alive their hopes of coming back from a 3-1 series hole for the third time in their history. The last time they did it was against the New York Rangers in the first round of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
What this means for the Penguins: The Penguins failed in their first try to eliminate the Capitals. They'll get their next chance in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, where they are 4-1 in this year's playoffs.
Key moment:With the score tied 1-1, Cole took a retaliatory slashing penalty against Capitals forward Tom Wilson behind the play 2:54 into the second period. The Capitals cashed in on the resulting power play with Oshie knocking in the rebound off of Ovechkin's one-timer from the left circle at 4:00 to make it 2-1.
Williams scored 5:58 later to give the Capitals their first two-goal lead of the series.
Unsung player of the game: Before Washington's third goal, left wing Jason Chimera pressured Dumoulin in the left circle, causing him to make a poor pass towards the middle of the ice that Williams intercepted in the high slot. Williams then took a wrist shot from between the circles that found an opening between Murray's pads and trickled over the goal line.
