Jack-Quinn

Jack Quinn will miss the start of the 2023-24 season for the Buffalo Sabres after having surgery to repair an Achilles tendon injury Wednesday.

The forward was injured this week during training.

The Sabres open the 2023-24 season against the New York Rangers on Oct. 12.

"He's such a good kid and is going to put the work in to get back," Buffalo general manager Kevyn Adams said Thursday at the 2023 NHL Draft in Nashville. "It's disappointing for Jack; I feel for him. He's one of those kids that, when I think back to my first draft as general manager, he's pretty passionate about what he's going to do in this League -- and he still will. He'll get past this. But I think he's right on the cusp of taking a big step in his NHL career. So, it's a setback for him, but he'll be OK."

Adams didn't provide a timeline on Quinn's return, but did say it will be a "significant" recovery.

Quinn had 37 points (14 goals, 23 assists) in 75 games this season, ranking seventh in points, tied for eighth in goals and ninth in assists among rookies. Selected by Buffalo in the first round (No. 8) of the 2020 NHL Draft, Quinn had 39 points (15 goals, 24 assists) in 77 games.

The Sabres (42-33-7) finished with 91 points this season, their highest total since 2010-11 (96 points), the last time they qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
