"If we have an area of depth, it's right defense," Jets coach Paul Maurice said. "That's the one place where if we have a guy go down we have players who want the minutes and can handle the minutes."

In 50 games, Trouba has 20 points (three goals, 17 assists) and a plus-6 rating. He is second on the Jets in average ice time (22:09) and the Jets have controlled 51.05 percent of all 5-on-5 shots attempted with Trouba on the ice. He has 125 points (34 goals, 91 assists) in five NHL seasons, all with the Jets.
"It's tough," defenseman Josh Morrissey said. "Obviously, sort of a freak incident there in overtime and it's tough to see him go down. I think he's been playing great hockey all year, especially lately. He has been playing outstanding. We've played pretty much the whole year together. It's tough to see him go down, but the rest of us, as a group, have to step up and take some of those minutes on. He's going to get better fast and we're going to do our best to hold the fort while he's gone."
Winnipeg also is without center Mark Scheifele, who sustained an upper-body injury Dec. 27 and was expected to need 6-8 weeks to recover; defenseman Dmitry Kulikov, who is out because of an upper-body injury sustained Jan. 23; center Adam Lowry, who has been out since Jan. 5 because of an upper-body injury; and goaltender Steve Mason, who last played Jan. 9 because of a concussion.
"We've dealt with injuries for the past month here and for us as a group it's just focusing on the same thing we have and that's our game plan and executing," defenseman Tyler Myers said.
The Jets are in first place in the Central Division with 66 points, one point ahead of the Nashville Predators. The Jets begin a 10-game homestand with a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET; TSN3, SUN, NHL.TV).
