DeBrusk rescinds request to be traded by Bruins

Jake DeBrusk rescinded his request to be traded by the Boston Bruins, general manager Don Sweeney said Wednesday.

"We're very happy that Jake has turned the corner on how he feels about the Boston Bruins and wants to be with us," Sweeney said. "He had a hell of a second part of the year and deserves a lot of credit for the production that he put forth and he's looking forward to being back."
Sweeney said in November that the forward had asked to be traded.
DeBrusk signed a two-year, $8 million contract ($4 million average annual value) on March 21.

The 25-year-old was moved onto the Bruins' top line alongside Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand on Feb. 24 and scored 16 goals in his final 32 games. DeBrusk's 25 goals tied Bergeron for third on the Bruins this season, and his 42 points were eighth. He had four points (two goals, two assists) in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games in Boston's loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference First Round.
"We're happy that he's in a good place and I indicated that previously," Sweeney said. "I think he was just in a better place when the season ended."
DeBrusk opting to remain with the Bruins gives them some needed stability. Jim Montgomery was hired July 1 to replace Bruce Cassidy as coach. Bergeron can become an unrestricted free agent July 13 and has not decided if he wants to return for a 19th NHL season.
And the Bruins know they will start the season without three key players. Marchand had surgery on both hips May 27 and needs six months to recover. Defenseman Charlie McAvoy had arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder June 3 and is expected to need six months to recover. Defenseman Matt Grzelcyk had surgery on his right shoulder June 3 and is expected to need five months to recover.
