Jared Spurgeon was placed on long-term injured reserve by the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday.

The defenseman hasn’t played this season after sustaining an upper-body injury during a preseason game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 5. The Wild said the next day that he’d be out week to week.

By being placed on long-term injured reserve, Spurgeon will be out for a minimum of 24 days and 10 games.

The Wild captain, 33, had 34 points (11 goals, 23 assists) in 79 regular-season games last season and two assists in six Stanley Cup Playoff games. He has 379 points (110 goals, 269 assists) in 851 regular-season games and 29 points (eight goals, 21 assists) in 67 playoff games, all with Minnesota.

The Wild (3-2-1) recalled forward Jujhar Khaira from Iowa of the American Hockey League on Wednesday.

Minnesota forward Frederick Gaudreau suffered an upper-body injury and did not travel with the team to begin a three-game road trip at the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday (7:30 p.m. ET; HULU, ESPN+). Gaudreau played 15:23 in a 7-4 win against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.
