Jared Spurgeon became the 12th defenseman in NHL history to have a natural hat trick in the regular season or Stanley Cup Playoffs when he scored three consecutive goals for the Minnesota Wild in a 5-3 victory against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Friday.

He's the first defenseman to get a natural hat trick since Justin Faulk did so with the Carolina Hurricanes on Feb. 13, 2018. Hockey Hall of Famer Al MacInnis is the only defenseman with two natural hat tricks, getting them with the St. Louis Blues on Dec. 11, 1996, and Oct. 12, 1998.

Spurgeon became the third defenseman with a regular-season hat trick against the Oilers, joining Paul Reinhart of the Calgary Flames on Nov. 24, 1986, and Kevin Hatcher of the Dallas Stars on Jan. 24, 1996. He's also the second defenseman in Wild history to have a hat trick, joining Ryan Suter on Jan. 4, 2014.

Panarin, Rangers keep rolling

Artemi Panarin helped the New York Rangers tie a team record with their seventh consecutive road win, 5-2 against the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena.
The Rangers also won seven straight on the road from Jan. 12-Feb. 12, 1935, and from Oct. 28-Nov. 29, 1978. It is the longest road winning streak in the NHL this season.

Panarin's assist on Jesper Fast's goal in the second period was the 400th point of his NHL career. He also scored a power-play goal 1:10 into the third period.
Panarin is the sixth undrafted player in NHL history to have 400 points in 381 games or fewer. The other five are Hockey Hall of Famers: Wayne Gretzky (197 games played), Peter Stastny (247), Bobby Orr (333), Joe Mullen (359) and Adam Oates (378).

Panarin, who was signed by New York as an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2019, has 81 points (31 goals, 50 assists) this season, tied for the sixth-most by a player skating in his first season with the Rangers.

Rookie goalie Igor Shesterkin made 27 saves and is 8-1-0 in the first nine games of his NHL career, including six straight wins. He's the third rookie goalie in Rangers history to earn a victory in at least six consecutive regular-season appearances, joining Jim Henry (7-0-0 from Jan. 18-Feb. 5, 1942) and Steve Weeks (6-0-0 from March 8-26, 1982).

Bruins overcome poor start to defeat Flames

The Boston Bruins became the seventh team in NHL history (five in the regular season, two in the playoffs) to allow three goals in the first four minutes of a game and win when they defeated the Calgary Flames 4-3 at Scotiabank Saddledome.
After trailing 3-1 just 3:23 into the first period, the Bruins scored three straight to win their fifth consecutive game, the longest active run in the NHL.
Boston is the first team to give up three goals in the first four minutes of a game and win since the Flames did it in the playoffs against the San Jose Sharks on April 13, 2008. Before Friday, it hadn't been done in the regular season since April 10, 1994, when the Hartford Whalers rallied for a 6-4 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Blues come close to third straight shutout, defeat Stars

The St. Louis Blues came within 3:33 of their third consecutive shutout in a 5-1 win against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center.
Five St. Louis players scored before Stars defenseman Jamie Oleksiak's goal at 16:27 of the third period ended Jake Allen's shutout bid and ended the Blues' shutout streak at 178:39, the longest in the NHL this season.
The Blues (35-17-10) are three points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche, and four in front of the Stars, in the race for first place in the Central Division and the Western Conference.
