Robertson leads 3 Stars of the Week

NEW YORK -- Dallas Stars left wing Jason Robertson, Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Brent Burns and Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Laurent Brossoit have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week ending April 14.

FIRST STAR - JASON ROBERTSON, LW, DALLAS STARS

Robertson posted 1-5-6 in three contests to help Dallas (47-21-14, 108 points) close the regular season on a six-game winning streak (dating to April 3) en route to clinching the No. 2 seed in the Central Division. He opened the week with a pair of three-point performances, registering 1-2-3 in a 6-1 victory against the Detroit Red Wings April 10 followed by a trio of assists in a 5-2 triumph over the St. Louis Blues April 12. Robertson then was held off the scoresheet in a 1-0 win versus the Blues April 13. The 23-year-old Arcadia, Calif., native finished the regular season with 46-63-109 in 82 appearances, ranking among the top players in power-play points (5th; 41), points (6th; 109), goals (7th; 46), plus/minus (7th; +37), power-play assists (t-8th; 28), shots on goal (9th; 313) and assists (t-10th; 63). His 109 points were the most by a U.S.-born player in a single season at age 23 or younger, ahead of the 107 set by Jimmy Carson in 1987-88 (55-52-107 in 80 GP w/ LAK) and tied by Jeremy Roenick in 1992-93 (50-57-107 in 84 GP w/ CHI), as well as the second-most by a player of any age in Stars/North Stars history, behind only Bobby Smith in 1981-82 (43-71-114 in 80 GP w/ MNS).

SECOND STAR - BRENT BURNS, D, CAROLINA HURRICANES

Burns scored in all three of his games, leading the NHL with four total goals (4-0-4) to propel the Hurricanes (52-21-9, 113 points) to a 2-1-0 week and their third straight division title. He found the back of the net once in both a 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators April 10 and a 4-1 victory against the Detroit Red Wings April 11. Burns then added two goals, including the tiebreaking tally early in the third period, in a 6 4 division-clinching win over the Florida Panthers April 13. The 38-year-old Burns, who was acquired in a July trade, produced one of the most prolific offensive seasons (18-43-61 in 82 GP) by a defenseman of his age, tying for the most goals (w/ Ray Bourque at age 39 in 1999-00 w/ COL), recording the third-most points and matching the fifth-most assists by a blueliner at age 38 or older. He also placed among the top 2022-23 defensemen of any age in goals (t-3rd; 18), points (12th; 61), assists (t-13th; 43), power-play assists (14th; 19) and power-play points (14th; 23).

THIRD STAR - LAURENT BROSSOIT, G, VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS

Brossoit yielded one goal in each of his two starts, going 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and .962 save percentage to backstop the Golden Knights (51-22-9, 111 points) - who closed the regular season on an eight-game point streak (5-0-3 dating to March 30) - to their third division title in their first six NHL seasons as well as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. He secured both wins against the Seattle Kraken, denying 20 shots in a 4-1 triumph April 11 and then making 30 saves - highlighted by stopping all 18 attempts he faced over the final two periods - in a 3-1 division-clinching victory April 13. The 30-year-old Brossoit played in 11 total contests this season, compiling a 7-0-3 record with a 2.17 goals-against average and .927 save percentage. That included a five-game winning streak, dating to April 1, to finish the regular season (1.59 GAA, .946 SV%).
