Jesper Fast signed a two-year, $4.8 million contract to stay with the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. It has an average annual value of $2.4 million.
The 31-year-old forward could have been an unrestricted free agent. He had 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists) in 80 regular-season games for the Carolina Hurricanes last season and nine points (six goals, three assists) in 15 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
"Jesper is an extremely hard worker on both ends of the ice, and his consistency has played a key role in our success over the past three seasons," Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell. "He is the kind of person and player that every team is looking for, and we are thrilled to have him back in our locker room."
Selected by the New York Rangers in the sixth round (No. 157) of the 2010 NHL Draft, Fast has 229 points (85 goals, 144 assists) in 630 regular-season games for the Rangers and Hurricanes, and 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists) in 80 playoff games.
Captain Jordan Staal signed a four-year, $11.6 million contract to remain with the Hurricanes on Sunday. It has an average annual value of $2.9 million.
